‘Precious’ – Stedelijk Museum Aalst [B]

Behind a harden glass facade the Hostess walks up and down in front of the text lines. She finds herself in a conditioned space for displaying important art. In optimal humidity- and temperature values she moves in the best room owned by the museum. She speaks to the visitors, men and women, with the last sentence of the text ‘Try to accompany’. A protected protocol in optimal conservation, inaudible for the audience that approached towards her and somewhat surprised tries to catch her words. Time after time the text reechoes upon her in the small space, whereby she is in spoken dialog with herself and in physical dialog with the spectators.

Achter een gehard glazen wand loopt de Hostess voor de tekstregels op en neer. Ze bevindt zich in een geconditioneerde ruimte gemaakt voor het tonen van belangrijke kunstwerken. In optimale vochtigheid- en temperatuurwaarde beweegt ze zich in de beste ruimte die het museum bezit. Ze spreekt de bezoeker, zowel man als vrouw, toe met de laatste zin van de tekst ‘Try to accompany’. Een beschermd protocol in optimale conservering. Onhoorbaar voor het publiek dat op haar afkomt en enigszins overrompeld probeert haar woorden te vangen, weerkaatst de tekst keer op keer naar haar terug in de smalle ruimte, waardoor ze in gesproken dialoog staat met zichzelf en in fysieke dialoog met de toeschouwers.
