Starting with one and the same letter, I have corresponded with five different artists. The main question was whether one should reveal much about oneself as an artist or maybe not. Is it better to mystify one’s personality? Another question touched upon the impossibility to fuse with the other. The desire of becoming one is the base of this work. To fuse is a dream but commitments are possible.
From that first letter, five entirely different correspondences developed. By approaching the objects, a fragment of the correspondence becomes visible, the viewer is pulled into intimacy. The big ellipse represents me, the smaller ellipse is the correspondent. The shape cannot be predicted, the radiation of the work is determined by the dialogue.

Vanuit dezelfde brief heb ik naar vijf kunstenaars geschreven. De belangrijkste vraag aan hen was of je als kunstenaar juist veel over jezelf moet vertellen of juist niet. Is het beter om persoonlijkheid te mystificeren? Een andere vraag betrof de onmogelijkheid om samen te vallen met de ander. Het verlangen om een te worden is de basis van het werk De Correspondents. Samensmelten is een droom maar verbindingen zijn mogelijk. Uit die eerste brief zijn vijf totaal verschillende briefwisselingen ontstaan.
Door dichterbij de objecten te komen worden fragmenten leesbaar, wordt de aanschouwer de initmiteit ingetrokken. De grote ellips ben ikzelf, de kleinere ellips is de correspondent. De vorm kan niet worden voorspeld, het is de dialoog die de straling van het werk bepaalt.
